Clip Seven

Speedrunners find an unlisted room at the end of a corridor, with a chair, a timer, and a warm seat.

Post your clips. I've been running the Any% route for two years and I have never once seen what I saw at 03:40 last night. Sector 7 has a corridor that's supposed to be a dead end. It isn't. Clip attached.

Ok that's a wall clip. Everyone's seen the wall clip. You're clipping into the next room.

I wasn't clipping. The room is on the other side of the wall and it has a door, and the door has a light over it, and the light is on, and the room is not in the level data. I checked the files. I checked the map viewer. The map viewer says Sector 7 is 412 units long. The corridor I walked is 419.

I went in. Carefully. The room is small and has nothing in it except a single chair facing a monitor. The monitor shows the corridor we run every day. Sector 7. From the chair.

The monitor shows a figure walking along the corridor. Slowly, in the same route we use. It's using the speedrun timings, and it stops at every point where we stop to reset.

It's me. Not my avatar. The grain of the screen is my camera feed.

Ok. Please upload that.

Uploading. The monitor on the chair displays the time. It displays our run time. The timer starts when I sit down.

The timer's been running since last night. I went back to the corridor twice this morning. Both times the run timer was ahead of mine by exactly the length of one clip, and both times the door at the end of Sector 7 was open a little wider.

I'm not sitting in the chair. I'm not going into the room. I'm going to reset the game and never run this route again.

Lmao everyone calm down. It's a hidden room. Devs leave them in all the time.

The devs didn't leave this one, pixelsalt. The room's name is in the files. It's called "Clip 7" and it isn't a level, it's a recording. It's a clip of a player running Sector 7, from behind, from the chair. The last frame is the player turning around. Their face is the same face as my avatar's.

I didn't reset. I couldn't. The game gets stuck on the title screen with the controller vibrating in my hand, one pulse for each step of the corridor. Eight hundred pulses since I got up this afternoon. I've been counting them.

I can't stop. If I stop, the pulses get ahead of me.

Ok I'm going to read the thread and I should have believed you. What do I do?

The route is the same every time. Walk the corridor, don't look at the chair, don't stop at the reset point. The timer is the only thing that's true. If you run it clean, the corridor ends where it's supposed to.

I ran it clean once. The door at the end opened on the title screen. There was no monitor. There was a chair, facing the door, and it was warm.

I did it. I walked the whole route with the controller in my lap and didn't look at the chair. At the end, the timer showed my best time, and the door opened, and I stepped through.

The room on the other side is the title screen. The menu is there. "Continue." "New Game." "Options."

There's a fourth option that wasn't there before, and I don't know if it's for me or the chair. It says "Clip 7 — Resume."

*No description.*

*Video shows: a corridor in a low-poly game engine, dim. A camera moves slowly along it, at walking speed, following a route the viewer has seen before. At 0:41 a chair comes into frame, facing a monitor. At 1:03 the monitor shows the corridor from above. At 1:27 the camera stops at the chair. At 1:49 the chair turns, very slowly, on its base, until it faces the lens.*

*At 2:02 a figure is sitting in the chair. It is a player avatar, holding a controller. The avatar's face is blurred.*

*At 2:14 the video ends on a timer. The timer reads a time that is still counting.*

The pulses have stopped. The controller is quiet in my lap. I didn't reset the game and I don't remember starting it again. The title screen is on the television, and there's a chair in the corner of the room that wasn't there yesterday, facing the screen.

It's warm. Somebody's already been sitting in it. The timer on the screen says I'm ahead.
