Errata for The Hollow Crown
The errata sheet to a board game turns the rules into a forgetting that does not stop when the box is closed.
**The Hollow Crown · Rulebook Errata v3 · Corrections to the Second Printing**
**p. 4, Setup:** Shuffle the Crown deck and place it face down. Each player takes one card and places it face down in front of them. *Correction: Players may look at this card once during setup. After setup, they may not look at it again.*
**p. 9, Turn Structure:** Remove the sentence "If you have no cards in hand, pass." *Replace with: If you have no cards in hand, you must return your face-down card to the deck.*
**p. 14, Ending the Game:** The game ends when the Crown deck is exhausted. *Correction: The game ends when the last player has forgotten their face-down card.*
**p. 16, Components:** The box contains one (1) Crown token. *Correction: The box contains one (1) Crown token and a card the publisher has not printed. Do not look for it.*

**Forum thread: "Errata v3 is wrong?" (opened 3 Oct)**
**Thea_R (3 Oct):** Our group read p.14 and decided the game ends when someone cannot remember their card. We've been playing for two weeks and nobody remembers anything now. Is this a typo?
**Mal_Oduya (3 Oct):** Not a typo. I checked the publisher's FAQ. It says "forgetting is part of the game."
**Thea_R (4 Oct):** The FAQ doesn't say that. The FAQ page has been edited. It now says "remembering is a form of playing."
**Support_Team (4 Oct):** Thank you for your report. Errata v3 has been issued in error and is being withdrawn. Please continue to play under the original rules.

**Forum thread (6 Oct)**
**Mal_Oduya:** Our table has a new rule nobody wrote down. Whoever holds the Crown card has to say the name of the card they can't see. If you say it wrong, you go back in the deck. Two of us have done it. Neither of us can remember the names.
**Thea_R:** My card says "Ellis." Is that right? I don't know anyone called Ellis.
**Mal_Oduya:** Mine says "Ada." Also no one I know.
**Thea_R:** There's a fourth player on our table now. They're sitting in the chair by the window, and they've been holding their card the whole time. I can't see the face on it. They keep asking whose turn it is.

**Publisher support log (ticket #HC-1187, 9 Oct)**
Customer reports the game is "still being played" after the box has been closed and put on a shelf. Customer says the pieces have moved. Support asked the customer to check the box for missing components.
Customer reports that the card they were given at setup is now lying face up on the table, in a seat that has no player in it. The card reads: *You are the one who keeps the Crown.*

**Forum thread: "Rules question" (12 Oct)**
**Nina_K:** Do we still do the "return your card" step if you've already been removed from the game?
**Support_Team (automated reply):** Players removed from the game do not return cards. Please see errata p.9.
**Nina_K:** But I'm still at the table. I'm just not allowed to talk. They keep dealing me cards, and every card I get is blank except for the word "remember" written in the corner.

**Rules clarification sheet (issued 15 Oct, unofficial)**
1. A player who cannot remember their face-down card has been removed from the game, and must sit quietly until the Crown is returned.
2. The Crown token is not to be picked up by anyone who has been removed.
3. If a removed player speaks, the table must stop and count the cards in the deck. Count aloud. Do not stop until the deck is empty.
4. The game ends when the last player forgets. There is no winner. Please put the box back on the shelf with the lid on.

**Forum thread (20 Oct, last post)**
**Thea_R:** We finished the game. Everyone forgot. The deck is empty. The Crown is on the table in the middle, and nobody will touch it.
Tonight I went to put the box away and the card in my hand was face up. It said: *Ellis. You were the fourth player. We've been hoping you would remember.*
I've tried to remember. I can't. I'm just sitting here with the lid off, and the table is set for four, and somebody is dealing.
